The 1st centenary of Técnico, in 2011, marked a historic milestone in a School that keeps it traditions and values, projecting them into a global and highly skilled world. Innovation, Knowledge and Technology are Técnico’s guiding principles, which promote excellence and fit the requirements of a knowledge-based society. Técnico is part of Universidade de Lisboa, the largest and the most competitive university in Portugal, and is recognised as a prestigious school at national and international level, namely in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology (ranked as the 15th Best engineering European Schools in the US News and Shanghai Rankings).
It comprises Portugal’s most prestigious Laboratories and RD&I centres, with 20 research centers and associated laboratories.Técnico offers a wide variety of courses to study, 9 undergraduate, 10 integrated Master’s, 29 Master’s programmes and 33 PhD programmes. Técnico is actively involved in several international mobility programmes in 75 countries worldwide . IST has significantly contributed to create cutting-edge science and technology, which is the main goal of the school. To promote international visibility and attract foreign students, researchers and professors Técnico invests significantly in international partnerships, such as EIT-KIC InnoEnergy or SE3P- SINO-EU platform and in a select number of international networks, CLUSTER, MAGALHÃES, TIME and CESAER. In the last decade, Técnico has promoted and expanded the availability of double degrees (more than 50 currently available) and credit mobility master and doctoral Programmes, not only by establishing bi/multi-lateral agreements but also through international programmes such as ERASMUS MUNDUS, KIC Education and SMILE.Técnico has been playing a very important role over the past century, promoting science, technology, research and innovation, which is essential for the economic and social development of Portugal.
